ClearMotion is looking for a Principal Engineer with specialized NVH simulation and practical expertise to join our Vehicle Integration team. Alongside leading NVH testing, analysis and development on vehicles fitted with ClearMotion’s proactive suspension and seating systems, you will bring specialist skills in building and correlating NVH models, connecting the virtual and physical worlds so that we can find and solve NVH issues earlier. You will guide development and testing strategy across the team. • Degree in mechanical, automotive or acoustic engineering, physics, or a related discipline. • Significant automotive NVH experience, including vehicle-level testing, root cause investigation and resolution of NVH issues. • Strong working knowledge of NVH physics, transfer paths and human sensitivity to sound and vibration. • Hands-on experience with NVH measurement and data acquisition systems (for example Head Acoustics, Siemens Simcenter Testlab or DEWEsoft) and with post-processing NVH data. • Proven experience building and correlating NVH or structural dynamics models (for example FEA, multibody or TPA-based models) against measured data. • Ability to evaluate vehicles subjectively and link subjective comments to objective data. • Experience coaching or guiding other engineers. • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to engineers, management and customers. • Full driving license.   Preferable Qualifications & Experience   • Experience with active or semi-active suspension, chassis or ride comfort systems. • Experience with Transfer Path Analysis (TPA), either test-based or simulation-based. • Experience working directly with OEM customers and suppliers. • Programming or scripting skills for data processing (for example MATLAB or Python). • Postgraduate degree in acoustics, vibration or a related field. • Experience with DOE or six-sigma methods for design space exploration. Subjective Vehicle Evaluation  • Evaluate vehicles and break NVH and ride performance down into engineering fundamentals that relate to customer requirements, communicating them clearly at all levels of the organisation. • Understand how key parameters and system interactions influence overall vehicle performance, and how they combine to deliver attribute performance.   Objective Testing  • Improve test plans and test specification standards, and discuss test plans and results directly with customers and suppliers. • Select the best instrumentation and data acquisition equipment for key NVH attributes, and recommend new equipment to extend our capability. • Configure test environments independently, and work with suppliers such as Head Acoustics, DEWEsoft and Vector to resolve issues and optimize ClearMotion’s setup. • Execute tests robustly and repeatably, write new operating instructions, and train team members on test execution. • Act as a go-to person for debugging rare and complex faults in the test environment or product.   Data Analysis & Reporting  • Review and post-process data collected by yourself and others, checking its validity and identifying areas for further investigation. • Analyse data rigorously to find emerging performance patterns and use it to guide root cause investigations. • Present analysis clearly and comprehensively to engineering peers both internally and externally.   NVH Development  • Identify key NVH issues and select the right measurement equipment and data collection approach to find the root cause. • Specify and implement appropriate NVH palliative measures, balancing them against other vehicle attributes. • Auralise noise data and identify abnormal frequency content from simulation or objective data, explaining findings to peers and management.   NVH Physics  • Apply working knowledge of NVH physics and human sensitivity to sound and vibration. • Link objective data to real-world NVH scenarios to define high-level attribute targets. • Assess NVH performance through multiple transfer paths using the NVH attribute cascade.   NVH Simulation (Specialist)  • Generate prototype virtual models to prove new ideas and concepts, combining them with physical vehicle data to support development. • Build complex models and correlate them against measured data, using them to guide the engineering team on system and vehicle performance. • Apply working knowledge of the theory behind physics-based models (FEA, equations of motion, contact mechanics) and use DOE methods to explore the design space.  • Use good version control practice for models and tools.    Leadership & Team Contribution  • Lead by example, make sure team members have the tools they need to succeed, and keep goals aligned across the team. • Coach and develop engineers and technicians, set clear expectations, and delegate appropriately. • Contribute to the long-term direction of NVH capability, balancing the big picture with attention to detail. • Live ClearMotion’s values: earn and keep the trust of others, make big ideas happen, seek out the unknown, think independently and deliver impeccable design. In addition to a competitive salary, we have a health plan, alongside an unlimited paid holiday plan so that you can make the most of your time away from work.  We promise to do our best to make being part of the team the ultimate benefit with cutting edge technologies to work on and an environment centered on transparency, trust, action, curiosity, independence and design.
