About us
Halfords is on a journey - building the future of motoring and cycling and
looking for people who want to help shape what comes next. We’re a place for
cocreators: people who want to make a real impact, take ownership and be part of
something that’s still evolving.
Technology at Halfords is at a turning point. We’re modernising our foundations,
sharpening our delivery, and ensuring every technology decision is connected to
real commercial and customer outcomes.
We're looking for people who act as trusted advisors to the business, take
end-to-end accountability for outcomes, and can balance pace with long-term
architectural integrity. Innovation here means practical, scalable solutions,
not ideas that stay on whiteboards.
About the role
As a Senior Project Manager, you'll take ownership of the Technology workstream
within one of the most significant transformation programmes in Halfords'
history. This multi-year programme will fundamentally reshape how the business
operates, and you'll be responsible for leading the end-to-end delivery of the
technology landscape that underpins it. From the current discovery phase through
design, implementation, go-live, and beyond, you'll be at the centre of a
high-profile transformation with visibility across the organisation.
Working closely with programme leadership, technology teams, implementation
partners, and business stakeholders, you'll build and own the technology
delivery plan, manage dependencies, coordinate resources, and ensure delivery
remains on track. You'll represent Technology across programme forums,
translating business requirements into actionable plans, escalating risks where
necessary, and providing clarity and direction in a fast-moving environment.
This is a career-defining opportunity for an experienced project manager who
enjoys ownership, autonomy, and complexity. The programme is expected to run for
several years and will be a key strategic priority for the business. You'll have
the chance to shape how technology is delivered within the programme, influence
senior stakeholders across the organisation, and establish yourself as a
recognised leader within one of Halfords' most important transformation
initiatives.
Key responsibilities
• Own the end-to-end delivery of the Technology workstream within the SAP
S/4HANA transformation programme, ensuring alignment to overall programme
objectives
• Build and maintain integrated technology plans, managing milestones,
dependencies, resource requirements, risks, issues, and delivery priorities
• Represent Technology across programme governance forums, providing updates,
escalating concerns, and driving effective decision-making
• Coordinate internal technology teams, implementation partners, and
third-party suppliers to ensure successful delivery across applications,
integrations, infrastructure, data, and security
• Manage technology contributions to design, testing, data migration, cutover
planning, go-live activities, and post-implementation support
• Provide delivery reporting to senior technology and programme stakeholders,
ensuring risks and challenges are clearly communicated with appropriate
mitigation plans
• Promote project management best practice, helping drive consistency,
continuous improvement, and effective delivery across the wider Technology
function
About you
• Proven experience delivering technology workstreams as part of large-scale
ERP implementations, ideally including SAP S/4HANA programmes
• Strong project management expertise across the full project lifecycle, from
discovery and design through to implementation, go-live, and service
transition
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build
credibility, influence decision-makers, and challenge constructively when
required
• Experience managing complex dependencies across multiple technical teams,
business functions, suppliers, and implementation partners
• Strong understanding of both Agile and Waterfall delivery approaches, with
the ability to apply the right methodology to different situations
• Comfortable operating in environments with ambiguity, evolving requirements,
and incomplete information, bringing structure and clarity where needed
• An approachable and collaborative leadership style, with the confidence and
gravitas to lead discussions and drive accountability at senior levels
Reward & benefits
• A fair and competitive salary evaluated against market data, annual
discretionary bonus scheme, pension, life assurance, 25 days annual leave
plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave.
• Commitment and dedication to your ongoing personal and professional
development. We help you to own and grow your potential so you can be at your
best in your current role and to support your future career aspirations.
• We offer hybrid working with a blend of working in our Support Centre and
from home.
•
You will have access to a wealth of employee discounts across the Halfords
suite of products and services.
• Wellbeing and inclusion are at the heart of our colleague experience. We
offer resources and ongoing support to enhance your wellbeing at work and
active Colleague Networks supporting inclusion initiatives across Halfords.
Not sure you meet all the criteria? We'd encourage you to take the wheel and
apply anyway! At Halfords we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace
for our colleagues. We're an equal opportunities employer and proud to welcome
applications from all backgrounds and embrace diversity within our one Halfords
Family.
