We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated Travel Plan Coordinator to join our Highways team and play a key role in supporting sustainable growth across Central Bedfordshire. Working on some of the area's largest new developments, you will help create thriving communities by encouraging residents to embrace walking, cycling, public transport, car sharing, and other sustainable travel options from the moment they move into their new homes. This is a varied and rewarding role where you will work closely with developers, housebuilders, council colleagues, residents, transport providers, and other stakeholders to develop, implement, monitor, and deliver Travel Plans that support modal shift and reduce reliance on private car use.   ABOUT THE ROLE As Travel Plan Coordinator, you will lead the delivery of Travel Plans for selected new developments across Central Bedfordshire. You will coordinate a wide range of sustainable transport initiatives, ensuring schemes are effectively planned, delivered, monitored, and evaluated. Working within the Council's Highways team and alongside colleagues in Public Transport and Transport Strategy, you will contribute to the delivery of the Council's sustainability and transport objectives while supporting the creation of healthier, better-connected communities.   KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Develop, implement, manage, and review Travel Plans for new residential developments. • Work with developers and housebuilders to deliver Travel Plan commitments and sustainable transport measures. • Lead stakeholder engagement and build strong relationships with council services, external partners, developers, residents, and transport providers. • Act as the main point of contact for Travel Plan-related communications, consultations, and engagement activities. • Coordinate the development and implementation of sustainable transport initiatives, including: • Car clubs • Bike share schemes • Active travel projects • Sustainable travel incentives and campaigns • Manage procurement processes and contracts associated with Travel Plan delivery. • Monitor, evaluate, and report on Travel Plan performance and progress against agreed targets. • Manage project budgets, including securing approvals, monitoring expenditure, and reporting outcomes. • Support the delivery of wider Sustainable Transport, Active Travel, and Public Transport strategies and programmes. • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to facilitate the delivery of transport infrastructure and associated projects, including cycling infrastructure improvements and electric vehicle initiatives. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING You will play a central role in helping the Council achieve its sustainable transport ambitions by: • Delivering Travel Plan actions that encourage residents to choose more sustainable modes of travel. • Supporting walking, cycling, public transport, and shared mobility initiatives across major new developments. • Leading engagement activities that influence travel behaviour and promote sustainable transport choices. • Monitoring progress and identifying opportunities to improve outcomes and increase uptake of sustainable travel options. • Managing multiple projects and priorities to ensure successful delivery of programme objectives. ABOUT YOU We are looking for a proactive and organised professional with experience in delivering projects and programmes, ideally within transport, infrastructure, sustainable development, or place-based services. You will have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills and be confident working with a broad range of partners to deliver successful outcomes. ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE • Strong programme, project, and stakeholder management skills. • Experience of coordinating or delivering transport, infrastructure, or sustainability-related projects. • Excellent communication, engagement, and relationship-building abilities. • Experience of managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. • Strong analytical, monitoring, and evaluation skills. • Experience of budget management and financial monitoring. • Ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to complex challenges. • Knowledge and understanding of sustainable transport, active travel, or public transport initiatives. • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE • Previous experience working within a Local Authority or public sector environment. • Understanding of local transport policy, travel planning, and behaviour change initiatives. • Experience of procurement, contract management, or commissioning services.
