Here at TreQ, we are accelerating the path to useful quantum computing by designing, deploying, and operating open-architecture quantum computing infrastructure that evolves as quantum technologies advance.
We are shaping the future of quantum computing and as we expand, we are searching for a Cryogenic Systems & Infrastructure Engineer. Based in Milton Park, Abingdon, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the reliable installation and operation of TreQ’s cryogenic systems and infrastructure at our manufacturing and innovation centre. As a Cryogenic Systems & Infrastructure Engineer with TreQ, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of cryogenic systems — from shipment and delivery through installation, testing, and operation at TreQ, to preparation, transport, and installation at customer sites.
You will work closely with our engineers, operations teammates, and external partners to keep critical systems running and ready for use. This role is for someone who wants to take ownership of critical infrastructure systems, bringing them online, keeping them running, and seeing them deployed into the field.
As a Cryogenic Systems & Infrastructure Engineer, your day will include:
Operating cryogenic systems and optimising uptime > driving systems to reliable performance through troubleshooting, coordination with manufacturers, and hands-on intervention
Leading installation, commissioning, and bring-up of systems including integration with facility infrastructure and the validation of system readiness
Establishing and maintaining facilities infrastructure, including cooling systems, chilled water, electrical systems, and access control
Managing end-to-end system logistics and deployment, including coordinating shipment, customs, receiving, repackaging, and installation at customer sites
Building and maintaining operational discipline, including creating documentation, organising workspaces, managing parts and consumables inventory, and defining repeatable operating procedures
You will be a success in this role if:
You know about:
Dilution refrigerators or closely related low-temperature systems
Facility infrastructure required for advanced computing hardware systems (cooling, power, plumbing, environmental controls)
System installation and commissioning in technical environments
Working with equipment under warranty, including troubleshooting and escalation
Safety practices and operational constraints in manufacturing environments
You can:
Troubleshoot complex physical systems methodically in time-sensitive situations
Work hands-on across mechanical, electrical, and system-level challenges
Collaborate across internal engineers, business leads, vendors, and partners to resolve issues
Stay organised and maintain clarity in environments that are initially unstructured
Exercise judgement on when to intervene directly vs. coordinate or escalate
You’ve had experiences like these:
Operating cryogenic, vacuum, and similarly complex physical systems
Bringing new systems online, including early-stage troubleshooting
Working with systems that were not yet stable or fully performing to specification
Supporting deployment or installation of equipment at external sites
Managing or contributing to facility or infrastructure setup for technical operations
You like:
Working with others to solve complex, practical problems that don’t have clean documentation
Keeping critical systems operating
Working with your hands as much as your head
Creating order and repeatable processes in environments that are still being built
Seeing systems go from crates and components to fully operational
You can demonstrate:
Deep experience with dilution refrigerators in quantum, low-temperature physics, or related environments
Familiarity with CAD tools or working with machine shops for custom parts
Experience supporting system deployments across multiple sites and customers
TreQ aspires to be the quantum computing company people want to work for. We see ourselves as stewards of the brilliant and driven people who choose to invest part of their lives with us. In addition to meaningful work, we offer:
