Role summary
You’ll be responsible for managing and delivering a portfolio of construction,
condition and capital improvement projects.
These projects will carry budgets ranging from approximately £250k - £2m, and
will be key to achieving the Council’s strategic objectives.
Your role will be to ensure that these projects are delivered safely,
compliantly and within the allocated budget. You will be working on these
projects from inception through to completion, procuring and project managing
them, undertaking feasibility studies and developing concept designs.
Success in this role will allow you to positively contribute to the provision of
high-quality, compliant environments for staff, stakeholders and service users.
You will be successfully achieving value-driven outcomes and helping the Council
to achieve key strategic objectives.
What you’ll do -

• Support the delivery of the Council’s key strategic aims and objectives.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, organisational policy and
codes of conduct.
• Use professional skills and experience to recommend optimum project
management & works delivery / supply chains.
• Lead on various directly delivered projects from inception to completion.
• Undertake RIBA stages 1-6 for intermediate scale and complexity projects and
programmes.
• Act as lead client as required for projects and programmes of more
significant complexity, impact or risk.
• Undertake feasibility studies for various projects to RIBA stage
3.
What we’re looking for – knowledge, experience & skills
• Prior experience as a Building Surveyor (or similar role) delivering a wide
range of maintenance and improvement projects.
• Evidence of working with and influencing a range of stakeholders and
partners.
• Proven project management experience using PRINCE2 principles.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Building Regulations and Planning process.
• Good working knowledge of statutory compliance legislation, standard forms of
construction contracts, and construction procurement practices and
procedures.
• Relevant RICS accredited degree.
• Associate membership of Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
• Proven financial, project and contract management skills.
Additional Information
• This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week.
• This role will be based in County Hall, Taunton, but will also include
regular travel to a variety of sites around Somerset.
• A driving licence and access to a car is essential for the role.
