We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join an established building services business based in Dartford.
This is a hands-on role with full responsibility for taking mechanical and M&E projects from initial enquiry and site survey through estimating, procurement and delivery to final handover and O&Ms.
Projects typically range from £30,000 to £500,000 and are delivered predominantly within existing client premises.
This position requires someone who combines strong mechanical technical knowledge with genuine commercial ability. You must be comfortable pricing works yourself, including pipework, materials and labour, rather than simply passing packages to subcontractors or relying on a QS.
Take projects from initial enquiry through site survey, estimating, delivery and completion.
Prepare detailed estimates and quotations, including pipework, materials, equipment and labour.
Deliver boiler room and plantroom replacements and refurbishments.
Manage chiller, VRV/VRF and AHU replacement/refurbishment projects.
Provide technically competent mechanical solutions and select appropriate plant and equipment.
Procure materials, equipment and specialist subcontractors.
Manage directly employed fitters and engineers throughout project delivery.
Take commercial ownership of projects from the original estimate through to completion.
Monitor costs, margins and variations monthly and provide financial reporting and forecasting to management.
Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme and within budget.
Manage commissioning, snagging, O&Ms and final project handover.
Develop strong client relationships and successfully deliver repeat projects.
Identify additional works and commercial opportunities with existing clients.
Commercial management and forecasting are central to the position, with the original role specifically requiring the PM to maximise project profitability and report financial performance to senior management.
What We're Looking For
You'll ideally have at least five years' experience within a similar mechanical/M&E project environment, which aligns with the existing requirement.
More importantly, you'll be able to demonstrate:
Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services.
Hands-on experience with plantrooms, boiler rooms, chillers, AHUs and VRV/VRF systems.
The ability to survey and independently price mechanical projects.
Knowledge of mechanical pipework, plant, equipment and labour requirements.
Strong commercial awareness and experience managing project margins.
Experience managing directly employed engineers/fitters.
Experience delivering works in live or occupied client environments.
The ability to manage projects from enquiry through to O&M handover.
Strong client-facing skills with evidence of delivering repeat works.
Excellent organisation, communication and problem-solving skills.
£75,000 basic salary
Company credit card
All business travel paid
Private healthcare
Death in service benefit
