Amey Consulting – Assistant Civil Engineer
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Assistant Civil Engineer to join
our Consulting Highways & Transportation Team. With office space in Gloucester
we invite applications from across the region.
The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, but we offer a range of
flexible working practices, including hybrid, part-time and flexible working
patterns. With our network of offices across the UK and now Ireland, we are open
to discussing working options that match your needs, with the flexibility to
change how you work as your life evolves.
The Gloucester Team currently help to deliver a varied portfolio of Highway
design work, from cycling & walking projects to junction design, land
development, maintenance and Local safety schemes for a variety of Local
Authorities such as Staffordshire County Council, Derby City Council, Dudley
Council, Swindon Borough Council, Milton Keynes City Council, & Wolverhampton
Council.
What you will be doing
As an Assistant Civil Engineer you will play an important part in every stage of
a project from inception to completion. Responsibilities include
• To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions
• Supporting the management and technical delivery of projects from start to
finish, including:
• Design development
• Principal Inspections / Special Inspections
• Feasibility and other technical reports
• Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation
as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of
quality, cost and programme
• Support effective health and safety practices within the team
We want to hear from you if you have:
• Developed experience and expertise within Civil Engineering field, probably
gained in an Graduate Engineer role or equivalent
• Knowledge of highways design processes and procedures
• Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with
all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working without
significant supervision and moving towards overseeing more junior members of
staff undertaking similar tasks
• Experienced in following procedures associated with the management of health,
safety and welfare, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the
Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
• Has knowledge and understanding of technical and specification processes and
is starting to take ownership for the production of deliverables with
appropriate supervision
• Good competence with relevant software and similar analytical tools
• Has a basic understanding of CDM and risk assessment. Experienced in the
management and communication of hazards and risks on projects
• Demonstrates a basic understanding of the different interfaces on projects
• Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject
