Job Description
Shawbrook Healthcare (incorporating ThinCats Healthcare, part of Shawbrook Bank) provides flexible asset-backed and cashflow lending solutions of between £2m and £35m, supporting growth and acquisition across the UK healthcare sector.
We have a clear sector strategy, real appetite to deploy capital and an experienced set of decision-makers. What turns that into a market position is execution — and that is where this role sits. As Associate Director, Transaction Management, you will take live healthcare opportunities from term sheet through diligence, credit, legals and completion, owning the process and the pace. You will also work alongside our Origination team on live pitches, helping shape structures and pricing at the point where deals are won.
This is a role for someone who wants to be hands-on in transactions rather than one step removed from them, and who wants their fingerprints on a franchise that is being built now rather than one that is already finished. You will benefit from:
A clear sector strategy and genuine appetite to lend
A highly collaborative team culture, with strong support across Origination, Credit, Portfolio and Operations
The ability to move at pace with conviction, backed by experienced decision-makers
Visible impact — your deals, your relationships, your reputation in a growing franchise
Structured development, with a clear path towards Director-level roles for those who deliver
Our healthcare coverage spans elderly, specialist and children's residential care; home care; special educational needs; pharmacy; dental; veterinary; GP practices; day nurseries; private medical (including private hospitals, diagnostics, IVF, therapies, surgical and rehabilitation, aesthetics and MedTech); and ophthalmology. Typical borrowers generate £1m–£15m+ EBITDA.
Key responsibilities
Own transaction execution (primary focus)
Combine working alongside Directors and leading the end-to-end execution of healthcare transactions from agreed structure through to drawdown, taking a 'Right First Time' approach to process, systems and data
Drive momentum across all internal and external stakeholders, holding the timetable and keeping deals decision-ready
Complete business, sector, market, credit and financial due diligence, including financial, revenue and margin analysis, financial modelling and sensitivity analysis
Prepare, present and own credit papers through Deal Forum and Investment Committee, with clear, balanced recommendations and high governance standards
Draft and issue indicative and final term sheets in partnership with Credit and Legal
Shape facilities, pricing, covenants and protections that work commercially for the client and remain robust through downside scenarios
Lead legal engagement and documentation, and co-ordinate security, KYC and loan completion
Manage drawdown dates and deliver effective handovers to Portfolio and Borrower Services
Support origination on live opportunities
Support Directors and Senior Directors at client and advisor meetings, including preparation of pitch materials, indicative structures and pricing
Provide pricing portal and credit grading input to inform front-end decisions
Develop tailored debt structures that demonstrate a sound understanding of the borrower's business and sector
Build and maintain your own relationships across the healthcare professional community — advisors, operators and investors — and build a presence in your local market
Qualifications
Skills and experience
Experience gained in a relevant market or environment — for example corporate banking, leveraged finance, structured finance, private credit or debt advisory
Demonstrable experience of end-to-end transaction and/or project management, ideally including transactions taken to completion
Sharp credit judgement: confident interrogating financial statements, cash generation, resilience and downside risk, and comfortable with both asset-backed and pure cashflow lending
Strong analytical and financial modelling skills, with excellent attention to detail
Commercial edge: a developing instinct for pricing, structure and terms, and an understanding of how to protect returns
High-pace execution: comfortable running multiple complex workstreams and making decisions with imperfect information
Influence and communication: excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to land complex ideas simply for Credit, senior stakeholders, clients and advisors
Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands effectively
Experience of building and managing multiple stakeholder relationships
Healthcare sector experience, and an understanding of relevant business models and regulatory frameworks, is an advantage — a real appetite to build that expertise is essential
Key attributes
A genuine desire to be hands-on in the execution of transactions
Passion for supporting high-growth healthcare businesses and the entrepreneurs behind them
Self-starter with a can-do attitude and a bias towards resolving issues rather than escalating them
Ownership of outcomes — committed to getting things right and driving quality
High integrity, and comfortable being honest and transparent with clients and colleagues
Adaptable, and supportive of continual improvement in a fast-moving environment
Potential and ambition to develop into future senior roles within the franchise
