Reporter The Press and Journal | Aberdeen For more than 275 years, The Press and Journal has been at the heart of communities across the north and north-east of Scotland, telling the stories that matter and championing the people, places and issues that shape the region. The Press and Journal is seeking an experienced Reporter to play a key role in our Live team in Aberdeen. Based in our Marischal Square office, you'll help deliver high-quality digital journalism that informs, engages and grows audiences across the north and north-east of Scotland. You’ll demonstrate excellent news judgement, thrive under pressure and take ownership of fast-moving stories. This role is for someone with strong news judgement and excellent storytelling skills who can deliver accurate, engaging local journalism, identify original story opportunities and respond confidently to breaking news. The role As a Reporter in the Live team, you will: Help deliver a consistent flow of relevant, accurate, high-quality audience-focused Live content including stories, live blogs, explainers and video Break news quickly and confidently, taking ownership of major stories as they develop Identify and develop original story ideas, follow-ups and exclusive content Build and maintain relationships with contacts, public bodies, emergency services and other key sources Film pieces to camera for our app and social media channels Use data, SEO and audience insight to maximise reach and engagement Contribute positively to newsroom collaboration by sharing ideas, contacts and opportunities Work closely with editors and colleagues across the newsroom to strengthen our journalism and audience impact What we’re looking for An experienced reporter with strong news judgement and a clear understanding of what makes a compelling story for The Press and Journal A proven track record of identifying, breaking and developing major stories Excellent writing and audience skills, including a strong understanding of analytics and SEO best practice The ability to generate original story ideas and develop strong contacts Confidence working independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines A strong understanding of Scots Law, the Editors’ Code of Practice and responsible journalism The drive to compete, win stories and grow audience through timely, accurate reporting A full UK driving licence is mandatory for this role. A Live reporter is: Curious and persistent – identifies stories that matter, asks the right questions and follows stories through Proactive and creative – spots opportunities and suggests strong angles and headlines Adaptable – comfortable working at pace in a live news environment, with flexibility around shifts Accountable and reliable – delivers accurate journalism to deadline while maintaining high editorial standards Collaborative – works well with others and responds positively to feedback Why join us?
