OUR ENVIRONMENT DIVISION Our Environment Division delivers critical water and environmental infrastructure projects across the UK, helping to improve communities and protect the environment. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE We are looking for an experienced and proactive HR Business Partner to join our People Team on a maternity cover basis. Supporting approximately 1,800 employees across our Environment Business, you will partner with leaders and managers to deliver a proactive, pragmatic and commercially focused HR service across the full employee lifecycle. Reporting to the Business Unit HR Lead, you will play a key role in supporting business performance through effective people management, employee relations, workforce planning and the delivery of strategic people initiatives. A significant aspect of the role will involve managing a varied employee relations caseload, providing expert advice and guidance on disciplinary, grievance, absence management, capability and performance matters, ensuring a consistent and balanced approach aligned to business objectives and company values. Working closely with the wider HR function, you'll primarily support the Environment Business whilst also providing some support to our Specialist Services businesses. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES • Deliver a responsive, pragmatic and customer-focused HR service to managers and employees across the Business Unit. • Provide expert advice and guidance on people matters, ensuring compliance with company policies, employment legislation and Galliford Try values. • Lead and manage a varied Employee Relations caseload, supporting line managers on disciplinary, grievance, absence management, capability and performance matters. • Ensure the timely and effective resolution of HR queries, working collaboratively with central HR teams and Centres of Expertise. • Process HR-related transactions and training requirements accurately and within agreed timescales. • Partner with Resourcing colleagues and hiring managers to understand current and future workforce requirements and support workforce planning activities. • Provide guidance on pay, benefits and terms and conditions, ensuring the consistent application of company reward principles. • Work alongside the HR Lead, Learning & Development team and business stakeholders to identify capability needs and support development initiatives. • Support the delivery of key HR programmes and annual people processes, including: • Annual salary and bonus reviews • Benefits renewals • Early careers recruitment, onboarding and development • Employee engagement initiatives and surveys • Wellbeing programmes • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives • Succession planning and talent reviews • Analyse people data and trends to support decision-making and identify continuous improvement opportunities. ABOUT YOU To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong combination of technical HR expertise, commercial awareness and exceptional stakeholder management skills. ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE • CIPD qualified, working towards qualification, or qualified through relevant HR experience. • Demonstrable experience in a generalist HR role, ideally at HR Business Partner or Senior HR Advisor level. • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice. • Significant experience managing complex employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability and performance matters. • Experience supporting operational businesses within a multi-site environment. • Experience delivering both transactional and operational HR activities. • Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence, coach and challenge stakeholders at all levels, including senior leaders. • Commercially minded with a pragmatic and solutions-focused approach. • Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment. • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and provide meaningful recommendations. • Confident decision-maker with sound judgement and the ability to assess risk appropriately. • Self-motivated, resilient and comfortable working with ambiguity. • Collaborative approach with the ability to build strong relationships across geographically dispersed teams. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the UK as required.
