We are recruiting a Design Engineer who owns sungod.co end to end, from Figma through to production, using design and code to move our key commercial metrics. What is the job role? Design Engineer Key Responsibilities: ✔ Storefront: our headed Shopify theme, built with Liquid, Vite, Tailwind CSS and Alpine.js (TypeScript), deployed through a CI/CD pipeline on GitHub Actions ✔ Shopify apps: maintaining and extending our internal app, which runs Shopify Functions for cart transforms and discount logic ✔ Design system: maintaining and extending our Figma design system and keeping it in step with the coded components ✔ Product design: taking UI/UX improvements from concept to production, measured against conversion, AOV and other key metrics ✔ Commercial enablement: partnering with commercial and marketing teams on promotions, campaigns, launches and strategic offers, and advising on how the site can best support them ✔ Tooling and microsites: scope to propose and build custom tools and microsites for wider business needs, with ownership of the technology and architecture choices. ✔ Design and build new functionality to support competitions, promotional mechanisms, advanced customer data capture, accounts and loyalty. Who are we looking for? The ideal person must have the following skills, experiences and competencies: ✔ Strong HTML, CSS and modern JavaScript/TypeScript ✔ Experience building Shopify themes in Liquid (sections, blocks, metafields, metaobjects) ✔ Tailwind CSS or another utility-first approach, plus component-based thinking ✔ Experience with a lightweight JS framework such as Alpine.js (Vue or React experience transfers well) ✔ Git, PR-based workflows and confidence working within an existing CI/CD setup ✔ A strong Figma-to-production workflow, including design systems and tokens ✔ Solid grasp of performance, accessibility (WCAG) and responsive design ✔ A portfolio showing both design and shipped code Nice to haves ✔ Shopify Plus, Shopify Functions, Checkout Extensibility, Storefront/Admin APIs ✔ Vite or other modern build tooling ✔ Motion and interaction design in code ✔ Shopify app development (Node, React Router/Remix) ✔ Multi-market and multi-currency ecommerce ✔ AI-assisted development workflows What to expect from this application… This application will ask a few questions about you and your experience.
