Learning Design and Evaluation Intern Supporting the Maximising and Evidencing Impact Bootcamp Durham University is committed to supporting staff and students to maximise the impact of their activities and contribute to positive change. Thanks to funding support from the Skills Hub for Accelerated Research Environments Inspiring the Next Generation (SHAREing), part of the UKRI Digital Research Infrastructure Programme, an exciting opportunity is available for a Durham University student intern (undergraduate or postgraduate) to work with the organisers of the Maximising and Evidencing Impact Bootcamp, a three-day professional development programme for digital technical professionals. The internship will support the creation of accessible learning materials, evaluation resources and participant materials that will be used during the bootcamp and shared more widely as digital resources. The internship will provide valuable experience in project development, resource design and professional skills training, designing for accessibility, and in evaluation. The intern will be expected to commit 8 days of work (flexible hours, up to 6 hours per day), paid at the University casual worker rate (£13.45 per hour) with work taking place in advance of the bootcamp delivery on 15-17th December 20 26. Attendance at the bootcamp is not required as part of the internship. The majority of the internship work will be able to be completed remotely, although some in person working will be required. The intern will: · Work with the bootcamp leads to develop high-quality online and hard-copy learning materials. · Conduct background research on accessibility, evaluation and effective learning resource design where required. · Review and adapt resources to ensure they meet accessibility best practice requirements. · Support the creation of participant workbooks, handouts and supporting materials. · Assist in developing evaluation tools and resources to capture participant feedback and programme impact. · Contribute to the preparation and organisation of bootcamp materials prior to delivery. · Support the formatting and production of materials for both digital and printed use. · Report progress to the project leads and contribute ideas for improving participant experience. The intern will benefit from: · Experience working on a funded professional development programme. · Insight into the planning and delivery of continuing professional development (CPD) programmes. · Practical experience in the design and development of accessible educational resources. · Knowledge and understanding of evaluation approaches and impact measurement. · Experience applying accessibility principles to real-world projects. · Opportunities to develop project management, communication and organisational skills. · Experience working alongside staff with expertise in researcher development, public engagement and evaluation. Person specification Essential · Be currently studying and registered as a student (undergraduate or postgraduate) at Durham University. · Excellent written communication skills. · Strong organisational and time management skills. · Ability to work independently and manage agreed tasks to deadlines. · Strong IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office applications. · Interest in learning design, accessibility, evaluation, project development or professional training. · Ability to work collaboratively and respond positively to feedback. Desirable · Experience creating educational, training or engagement materials. · Knowledge of accessibility principles and inclusive design. · Experience of data collection, evaluation or research activities. · Interest in impact, public engagement, researcher development or professional skills training. · Experience using design software or digital content creation tools. About the project The Maximising and Evidencing Impact Bootcamp is supported by funding from the Skills Hub for Accelerated Research Environments Inspiring the Next Generation (SHAREing), part of the UKRI Digital Research Infrastructure Programme and is an intensive three-day programme designed to support digital technical professionals in developing the skills required to design impactful projects, and effectively evaluate and evidence their outcomes. Participants will explore topics including: · Theory of Change development · Purposeful project design · Evaluation methods · Impact measurement · Ethics and working with people · Data governance and management · Project management · Data analysis · Dissemination and communication of findings The intern will play an important role in ensuring that participants have access to high-quality, accessible and engaging learning materials that support their learning throughout the programme. The materials will be developed based on content from an existing successful programme, that will be tailored to the specific needs of the digital technical professional community. Supervisors The internship will be supervised by Dr Helen Cramman, Associate Professor and Head of Researcher Development, and Dr Lorraine Coghill, Deputy Head of Science Engagement – Strategy, Impact and Partnerships.
