Technical Academy
Location: Cardiff (Office-based, 5 days a week)
Starting Salary: £26,225 - £29,000 DOE + up to £3,000 annual bonus
Are you technically minded, curious, and looking to build a long-term career in technology?
Join our Technical Academy and develop the practical skills, knowledge and experience needed to progress into a specialist technical career within our growing technology business.
You might already know that you want to become a Software Developer, Data Engineer or Project Manager. Alternatively, you might know that technology is the right career for you but want the opportunity to experience different disciplines before choosing your direction.
Our Academy is designed to give you both.
What you'll do
You'll initially join our Technical Support Team, giving you a strong understanding of our technology, products, customers and the way our different technical teams work together.
During this initial period, you'll:
Help resolve customer technical queries and issues
Learn to manage and prioritise work against Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
Build knowledge across our software, systems, products and services
Work with technical and development colleagues to investigate and resolve live issues
Develop your problem-solving, communication and customer service skills
From around 3-6 months, we'll begin introducing rotations and development opportunities across areas including:
Software Development
Data Engineering
IT Project Management
Product Design
Business Analysis
IT & Infrastructure Engineering
As you progress through the Academy, these may develop into longer secondments and, typically within 6-12 months, opportunities to move into a permanent role aligned with your strengths, interests and available opportunities.
You may also decide that Technical Support is where you want to build your career, with progression available through our Technical Support Engineer salary grades and towards Senior Technical Support Engineer roles.
Location and hours:
Onsite, Eastern Business Park, St Mellons, Cardiff, Wales.
Minimum 37.5 hours per week, 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, with up to one hour for lunch.
On-Site Working:
We're an office-based team because our culture thrives on collaboration, learning and hands-on support, particularly for people developing their careers. While we don't offer fully remote or fixed hybrid working, we're flexible when life happens and ad hoc home working can be available where appropriate.
Diversity & Inclusion:
Advanced Secure Technologies is an equal opportunity employer and we're committed to creating an inclusive workplace. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and process personal data in accordance with our Privacy Notice.
More than anything, we're looking for people with a genuine interest in technology, an appetite to learn, and an interest in developing a career in one or more of the areas covered by our Academy.
You don't need to arrive with extensive professional experience.
We're particularly interested in candidates who have either:
A relevant technical qualification, such as an A-Level, BTEC, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, degree or recognised professional/industry qualification relating to IT, computing, software development, data, infrastructure, project management, business analysis or a similar discipline; or
Some relevant practical or workplace experience that has given you a foundation in one or more of these areas.
You'll also ideally bring:
A genuine interest in technology and how systems work
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Good organisation and attention to detail
Confidence communicating with colleagues and customers
A willingness to learn, take feedback and continuously develop
The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Basic confidence using Microsoft 365 and other digital systems
Experience with areas such as application support, software development, databases/SQL, infrastructure, software testing, data or project delivery would be beneficial, but isn't essential.
We're interested in your potential as much as your current experience.
