Head of Engineering - Studios Technology

Workplace: London White City. Expectation is 2-3 days per week in the office ITV Studios is one of the biggest global creators, producers and distributors of TV content in the world. Studios Technology underpins the creation, management and distribution of world-class content, enabling creative excellence and operational efficiency across our scripted and unscripted labels. The Role Reporting to the Director of Technology, the Head of Engineering, Studios Technology will provide senior technical and people leadership across the Studios Technology engineering landscape. The role is responsible for setting engineering direction, building strong engineering capability, and ensuring technology solutions are scalable, secure, resilient and aligned to ITV Studios’ creative, operational and commercial ambitions. Working closely with Product, Delivery, Architecture and business stakeholders, the Head of Engineering will help shape and deliver the Studios Technology strategy. They will ensure engineering teams are focused on high-quality delivery, sound technical decision-making, effective assurance and continuous improvement. Skills Required • Proven experience in a senior engineering leadership role, ideally within a complex technology, media, digital, platform or enterprise environment. • Strong technical background across modern software engineering, cloud platforms, APIs, data, automation, infrastructure, platform engineering and AI engineering. • Experience leading engineering teams through delivery, change and growth, including performance management, coaching, mentoring and capability development. • Strong understanding of system architecture, service design, scalability, performance, resilience and DevOps practices. • Experience shaping technical roadmaps and making architectural or engineering decisions that balance business value, delivery pace and long-term maintainability. • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP, including cloud-native engineering patterns and operational best practice. • Experience defining or operating engineering governance, technical assurance, design review or architecture governance processes. • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience working closely with Product, Delivery, Architecture and senior technology leadership. • Strong ability to identify and manage technical risk, engineering dependencies and technical debt across complex technology landscapes. • Clear communication skills, able to explain technical direction, rationale and outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences. • Leadership-level familiarity programme language e.g. Python and  Java,  Key Criteria • Strategic Thinker • Able to define and communicate a clear technical direction that supports ITV Studios’ business and technology strategy. • People-First Leader • Leads with empathy, clarity and accountability, supporting engineers to do their best work and grow their careers. • Commercially and Customer Focused • Ensures engineering investment and delivery directly support creative, operational and commercial goals. • Technically Credible • Brings the depth of experience needed to guide engineering decisions, challenge constructively and support effective technical trade-offs. • Collaborative and Inclusive • Builds strong relationships across multidisciplinary teams and creates an environment where different perspectives are valued. • Outcome Driven • Focuses on measurable impact, value delivery and alignment to agreed strategic outcomes. • Calm Under Pressure • Able to lead teams through ambiguity, competing priorities and business change with clarity and steadiness. • Clear and Influential Communicator • Simplifies complexity, explains rationale clearly and inspires confidence across technical and non-technical audiences. • Analytical and Evidence-Based • Uses data, insight and performance measures to guide decisions and drive continuous improvement. • Organised and Disciplined • Manages multiple complex priorities while maintaining focus on quality, risk and delivery outcomes. • Champion of Diversity and Inclusion • Actively supports a culture where everyone can contribute fully and develop their potential. • Continuous Improvement Mindset • Looks for practical ways to improve engineering practice, team effectiveness and operational performance.       Your work matters to millions.
