About the role
The Elections and Local Land Charges Team are responsible for producing and
maintaining the Electoral Register and as part of that carrying out the annual
canvass. We also carry out all national and local elections and referenda in the
CBC area and are responsible for ensuring they are carried out effectively,
efficiently and in line with procedures, statutory requirements and timescales.
As part of our statutory duty, we promote and publicise engagement in the
Electoral and Democratic process.
The role is based at our offices in Stotfold but the ability to reliably travel
to different locations across the Council’s area will be necessary. Flexibility
and adaptability are important, as the demands of the service can change
throughout the year, particularly during election periods, this can mean working
extended hours as well as weekends.
We're looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Electoral
Services team. This opportunity would suit someone who is eager to develop a new
profession and build a rewarding career in electoral administration.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with a genuine commitment
to delivering excellent customer service, are essential. You will be working to
strict deadlines, so excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and a
methodical approach are key. While you'll work closely with colleagues as part
of a supportive team, you'll also need to be confident working independently and
using your own initiative.
You should be IT literate, comfortable using technology, and keen to learn new
systems and processes.
In this role, you will develop a specialist understanding of electoral
legislation and gain expertise in using the Electoral Services management
system, which will form a key part of your day-to-day work.
As part of the team responsible for maintaining and producing the electoral
register, you will play an active role in supporting the annual canvass and
helping to deliver elections and referendums across the area. This is a vital
service that supports local democracy and ensures residents can exercise their
right to vote.
This is a career-graded position, with starting salary dependent on your
qualifications and experience. Candidates appointed at trainee level will
normally start at the bottom of the lower grade, with progression based on
satisfactory performance. Advancement to the higher grade will be achieved
through demonstrating the required competencies and successfully completing the
Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) Certificate.
As part of your development, you will be expected to undertake the AEA
Foundation and Certificate qualifications, which include assignments and an
examination. Membership of the AEA will provide access to regional and national
meetings, conferences, training events, and networking opportunities, helping
you develop your professional knowledge and build a successful career in
electoral services.
