Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as
needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month. Please
note this role is predominantly based at our Stotfold office.

About the role
The Electoral Services Team at Central Bedfordshire Council administers 230,000
electors for this busy unitary authority which is growing rapidly. As a council
we are committed to balancing growth with sustainability and quality of life and
joining this efficient and customer-focused service will suit a motivated
individual who is passionate about supporting the democratic process and can
help reshape the electoral landscape.
The role is based at our offices in Stotfold but regular travel to different
locations across the Council’s area will be necessary. Additionally, at election
times
you will need to be able to work unsociable and extended hours and
occasionally some weekends.
We are looking for someone with excellent customer care, IT skills and strong
written and oral communication. The successful candidate must be highly
organised, flexible and be able to work with a team to meet tight non moveable
deadlines. Previous experience working within elections and electoral
registration is preferable. The ability to plan, prioritise and work on own
initiative is essential.
This role works within a team that is responsible for producing and maintaining
the electoral register including supporting the annual canvass and managing
elections and referenda for the area. A key area of responsibility will be to
assist in creating an engagement strategy for registration in the hard-to-reach
groups and under 18s. This will require you to be able to reliably travel to
Care Homes, Schools, Universities and other community locations to promote
democracy and registration.
Ideally
you will have completed the Association of Electoral Administrators
(AEA)- Foundation Course and be prepared to study for the AEA certificate.
Additional work specific training is available as required.
Please note - this is a politically restricted post (defined by the Local
Government and Housing Act). Therefore, the successful candiate will be unable
to participate in any of the following activities:
• Candidature for public elected office (other than a parish or community
council)
• Acting as an election agent or sub agent
• Holding office in a political party
• Canvassing at elections
• Speaking or writing publicly (other than in an official capacity) on matters
of party-political controversy
