Part time (20hrs per week) Location: Remote within the UK – including occasional travel for meetings Summary Children Not Numbers is seeking a part-time Finance Assistant to support accurate, timely and audit-ready finance administration. Working closely with the Finance Manager, the postholder will process transactions, maintain supporting records, assist with reconciliations and month-end preparation, and help ensure finance information is complete and properly controlled. The role requires an AAT Level 3 qualified finance professional who is accurate, methodical and comfortable working in a small, remote charity/non-profit environment. Principal Duties Transaction processing and financial administration Process purchase invoices, supplier payments, staff expenses and income receipts accurately and within agreed timelines. Maintain accounting records with correct coding, allocation and supporting documentation. Support accounts payable and receivable, including invoice preparation, payment tracking and follow-up of outstanding balances. Keep financial documentation organised and accessible for reporting, audit, funder review and internal control purposes. Help maintain finance data across Xero, Stripe, Beacon and other relevant payment or reporting tools. Reconciliations, month-end and reporting support Prepare or support bank, control account and balance sheet reconciliations for review by the Finance Manager. Support month-end close, including completeness checks, accruals, prepayments, restricted fund schedules and supporting analysis. Identify discrepancies, missing evidence or unusual transactions and escalate issues promptly. Support preparation of information for management accounts, audit, VAT returns, funder reporting and year-end work. Payroll, controls and process support Support payroll administration, payroll changes, contractor schedules and related documentation with the People Team and external payroll providers. Check expense claims and payment requests against finance policies, approval procedures and delegated authority limits. Maintain finance templates, trackers, process notes and routine records; contribute to practical improvements where needed. Person Specification Essential Qualification: AAT Level 3 qualified. Experience: Finance assistant, bookkeeping, finance officer or finance administration experience. Core finance skills: Confident processing of invoices, payments, expenses, income receipts and accounting records. Reconciliations: Experience supporting reconciliations, month-end work and financial reporting activities. Systems: Cloud accounting software experience, preferably Xero, with confident Excel capability. Controls and judgement: Strong accuracy, confidentiality, audit-ready record keeping and understanding of financial controls. Working style: Organised, reliable and able to manage a remote part-time workload with appropriate supervision.
