In our world, there are no simple projects, only specialist needs and clever solutions.   We are a general contracting business, drawing on over forty years of specialised industry experience to provide excellent service, sustain long-term partnerships and achieve the highest quality outcome for key clients, whilst maintaining financial commitments.   Sweet Projects is currently at stage 4 design, with enabling works for an £80million, multi-stage Data Centre in Corsham, Wiltshire.   Enabling works are due to kick off in Q4 2026, with the main works commencing in Q2 20 27.   The Trainee Design Manager supports the coordination and delivery of design activities throughout the project lifecycle while developing the knowledge and experience required to progress within the Design Management function.   Working under the guidance of the Design Manager or Senior Design Manager, the role supports design reviews, programme monitoring, information management and coordination between designers, consultants, subcontractors and project teams. The role will gain practical experience from pre-construction and design development through construction, closeout and handover. Design Coordination and Delivery • Support design delivery from pre-construction through construction and handover • Assist with coordinating design activities between consultants, designers, subcontractors and project teams • Support the review and distribution of design information • Help maintain design registers, trackers, action schedules and project records Programme and Design Information • Assist with monitoring design progress against agreed programmes and deliverables • Support the management of Information Required Schedules and Information Delivery Plans • Help identify overdue information, outstanding actions and potential programme risks • Gather information to support design progress reporting Design Quality and Compliance • Support design reviews against client, contractual, technical and regulatory requirements • Assist with monitoring the quality, accuracy and completeness of design deliverables • Promote Safety in Design, sustainability and environmental considerations • Raise design issues, inconsistencies and areas of non-compliance with the Design Manager Construction and Handover Support • Attend buildability, constructability and sequencing reviews • Support the resolution of design queries and coordination of design changes • Assist with monitoring Contractor’s Design Portion subcontractor information • Support design validation, as-built information, O&M documentation and project handover requirements Stakeholder Support and Communication • Build effective working relationships with designers, consultants, subcontractors and project teams • Attend design meetings, workshops and reviews, recording actions where required • Communicate design actions, deadlines and information requirements clearly • Support collaboration between design, technical, commercial and project delivery teams Learning and Development • Complete the required training and development programme • Develop knowledge of design management processes, construction methods and technical requirements • Build commercial awareness and an understanding of design risk and opportunity • Seek feedback and apply learning to improve technical knowledge and capability • Take increasing responsibility for design coordination activities as competence develops Success Measures • Timely completion of assigned design activities • Accuracy of design information and records • Compliance with design management procedures • Effective monitoring of design actions and deliverables • Progress against training and development objectives • Positive contribution to the project and Design Management team   The duties listed are not exhaustive and may be varied from time to time as dictated by the changing needs of the Company. The post holder will be expected to undertake other duties as appropriate and as requested by his/her manager.   The post holder may be required to work at any of the locations at which the business of Sweet Projects is conducted. Experience required   Essential • Experience in design discipline and awareness of design process  • An interest in construction design, engineering and project delivery • Aware of design principles and methodologies of building construction. • Ability to interpret information, maintain accurate records and follow established processes Desirable • Previous Design experience is required • Previous placement, internship or work experience within construction, architecture or engineering • Exposure to construction drawings, models or technical documentation • Experience working with project teams, consultants or contractors • Awareness of construction design principles and the project lifecycle   Qualifications   Essential • Relevant academic qualification in construction, architecture, engineering or a related discipline, or currently working towards one • Willingness to undertake relevant training and professional development  • Full UK driving licence Desirable • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in a construction-related discipline • Qualification supporting future membership of a relevant professional institution • CSCS card or willingness to obtain one where required Sweet Projects is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
