Role description:
Arcadis is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, develop, and optimise
enterprise-scale data solutions that support major projects, programmes, and
business functions.
As a technical specialist within multidisciplinary teams, you will lead the
delivery of robust, scalable, and secure data platforms, pipelines, and products
that enable reporting, analytics, digital transformation, and data-driven
decision-making. Working with technologies such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data
Services, SQL, and Power BI, you will ensure data is managed effectively
throughout its lifecycle, and contribute to effective Information Management
across all teams and business functions.
The role combines strong technical expertise with stakeholder engagement,
requiring the ability to translate business requirements into sustainable data
solutions while promoting best practice in data engineering, governance,
information management, automation, and cyber security.
Role accountabilities:
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines, integrations, and
transformation processes across multiple data sources.
• Lead the implementation and optimisation of Microsoft Fabric and associated
cloud-based data engineering solutions.
• Build and maintain enterprise data products, data models, and structured
datasets that support reporting, analytics, and operational decision-making.
• Establish and apply data quality, validation, and assurance frameworks to
ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data assets.
• Collaborate with project teams, business stakeholders, analysts, and digital
specialists to define and deliver data requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement through automation, process optimisation, and
adoption of industry best practices.
• Ensure compliance with Arcadis standards relating to information management,
data governance, cyber security, and data privacy.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex data-related issues, providing technical
expertise and guidance to project teams.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams,
standards, and operational procedures.
• Support the development of junior team members through mentoring, knowledge
sharing, and technical leadership.
• Contribute to the development of organisational data engineering standards,
frameworks, and reusable solutions.
• Support solution architecture, platform design, and strategic data
initiatives across programmes and business functions.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential Experience
• Demonstrable experience delivering data engineering solutions within complex
project, programme, or enterprise environments.
• Strong experience designing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines, data
integration processes, and structured data platforms.
• Experience working with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Services, SQL, Power BI,
or equivalent modern data platforms.
• Strong understanding of data modelling, database design, metadata management,
and data architecture principles.
• Experience implementing data quality, governance, and assurance practices.
• Experience supporting reporting, analytics, and business intelligence
solutions.
• Understanding of information security, cyber security, and data protection
requirements within enterprise environments.
• Experience working directly with stakeholders to gather requirements and
translate them into technical solutions.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outputs
within project timescales.
Desirable Experience
• Experience within engineering, infrastructure, construction, programme
controls, PMO, or consultancy environments.
• Experience with cloud-native architectures, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and
DataOps practices.
• Knowledge of Python, Spark, PySpark, Databricks, or equivalent data
engineering technologies.
• Information Management in a complex construction or infrastructure
project/programme
• Experience developing enterprise data products and supporting AI or advanced
analytics initiatives.
Education / Background
One or more of the following:
• Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, Information
Systems, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
• Professional certifications in Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Engineering, Data
Management, or equivalent.
• Equivalent demonstrable experience delivering complex data engineering
solutions.
