Purpose of the Role
We are looking for a talented Mechanical Estimator to join the AVRS Systems
team.
In this role, you will support the business through the preparation and
submission of accurate, commercially competitive tenders that meet client
requirements and help secure future work. Working as part of a highly
experienced estimating team, you will play a key role in supporting the
continued growth of the business across a range of infrastructure and
non-infrastructure projects within the clean water, wastewater and sludge
treatment sectors.
This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator with a mechanical, water or
process engineering background looking to develop their career within a leading
infrastructure organisation.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Mechanical Estimator, you will:
• Prepare enquiry schedules and liaise with internal stakeholders and
procurement teams to identify suitable suppliers and subcontractors.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations to support robust commercial
decision-making.
• Provide information required to review contract conditions, bonds, warranties
and insurance requirements.
• Produce detailed analytical rate build-ups and Bills of Quantities.
• Develop and refine cost data using project feedback and market intelligence.
• Identify opportunities to improve commercial competitiveness and add value to
tender submissions.
• Identify, assess and manage tender risks, producing risk registers where
required.
• Prepare preliminary cost estimates and pricing submissions.
• Compile commercial documentation for tender submissions.
• Attend tender finalisation and handover meetings, presenting cost information
and recommendations.
• Support the successful delivery of accurate, compliant and commercially
robust tender submissions.
• Work collaboratively with engineering, procurement and project delivery teams
throughout the bid process.
About You
We're looking for a commercially minded estimator who enjoys working
collaboratively and has a strong attention to detail.
Essential Skills & Competencies
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Collaborative and proactive approach to working within multidisciplinary
teams.
• Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
• Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
• High level of commercial awareness.
• Strong understanding of risk identification and risk management techniques.
• Good understanding of health and safety responsibilities and compliance
requirements.
• Ability to interpret technical and commercial information accurately.
Technical Knowledge & Experience
• Experience working within an estimating, commercial or project delivery
environment.
• Knowledge of the estimating process and tender preparation.
• Understanding of construction and engineering contracts and Conditions of
Contract.
• Understanding of client asset standards and WIMES specifications.
• Ability to read and interpret:
• Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
• Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
• Experience within clean water, wastewater or sludge treatment projects would
be advantageous.
• Strong understanding of procurement and supply chain engagement processes.
• Experience in risk management and commercial assessment.
Qualifications
• Equivalent to Level 3 NVQ or Certificate-level qualification.
• Relevant construction, engineering, mechanical or technical qualification
desirable.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel
and PowerPoint.
