About the role The Design Engineer will primarily be responsible for the provision of technical support to a broad range of internal departments and occasionally external customers. Other duties will include design of components, jigs and fixtures as well as the creation and maintenance of engineering drawings. In-service design modification work may also be undertaken once suitable experience has been gained. Job Responsibilites · Liaise effectively with Production, QA, Procurement and Manufacturing teams. · Maintain regular communication and interaction within the workshop areas. · Produce technically correct designs for jigs, fixtures and special tools as required by manufacturing. · Prepare and maintain manufacturing drawings to a highly proficient standard for all jigs, fixtures and tools. · Provide general technical support to in-house issues during manufacture and test. · Consider and create effective solutions for equipment repair and refurbishment. · Occasionally provide design/drawing capability for the design team to ease capacity demands and overloads. · Configuration control of drawing sets. · Promote Safe Working practices. Essential · BSc or BEng in Mechanical or similar Engineering, or, Relevant Apprenticeship with HNC with related experience or HND with related experience. In such cases further development may be required and offered under a Developing Engineer role. · Experience with solid modelling and drawing design tools · A flair for pragmatic problem solving and innovation · A flexible approach to work activities. · Competency with using Microsoft Office packages. Desirable · Experience in undertaking structural analysis using finite element modeling. · Security cleared. · Previous tenure involving creation of complex technical drawings, both parts and assemblies. · Awareness of military environmental requirements, including equipment standards for safety, EMC, shock, noise and vibration and ideally hazardous areas. · Experience with the electrical control of mechanical systems.
