TEAMWORK MAKES THE STREAM WORK.
ROKU IS CHANGING HOW THE WORLD WATCHES TV
Roku is the #1 TV streaming platform in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and we've
set our sights on powering every television in the world. Roku pioneered
streaming to the TV. Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that
connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love,
enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide
advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers.
From your first day at Roku, you'll make a valuable - and valued - contribution.
We're a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you
the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while
gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.
ABOUT THE TEAM
At Roku, the Device Monetization and Themed Experiences (DMTE) team, a part of
the Advertising organization, is where the magic behind the scenes happens.
We’re the engineers who build the high-performance graphics and UI foundations
that power the FRAME engine — the core technology enabling Roku’s smooth,
responsive, and visually rich experiences on millions of devices worldwide. Our
work lives in the middleware and UI layers, and its impact is felt every time a
user navigates a menu, enjoys an animated ad, or is wowed by the bespoke
experience built to market the latest TV show or Movies. We thrive on solving
technical challenges — from optimizing UI rendering to fine-tuning memory usage
— using BrightScript (or JavaScript-like) to deliver rock-solid,
high-performance solutions. We work in a collaborative, high-trust environment
where great ideas can come from anywhere, partnering closely with firmware, UI,
and product teams to ensure our platform is lightning fast, reliable, and ready
for the next generation of streaming innovation. If you love building the
invisible foundations that make great user experiences possible, this is the
team for you.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Software Engineer in the DMTE team, you’ll contribute to Roku’s platform
innovation — implementing and optimizing BrightScript (or JavaScript-like)
systems for graphics rendering and the FRAME engine. You’ll tackle
performance-critical challenges, ensuring our devices deliver smooth visuals and
instant responsiveness at scale. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about core
architecture, work across the stack with hardware, firmware, and application
teams, and see your work directly impact tens of millions of users. This is a
role for engineers who love technical problem-solving, care about performance,
and want to work on technology that quietly powers an entire ecosystem. If
you’re ready to learn, grow, and contribute to the future of streaming, we’d
love to hear from you.
HOW WILL I USE AI AT ROKU?
At Roku, we don’t just use AI, we work with it. AI agents and smart tools help
power drafts, analysis, and repetitive workflows, while our people bring
direction, judgment, and accountability. We’re looking for curious, adaptable
builders who can show how they’ve used AI or automation to move faster, raise
the bar, and scale their impact.
We value your AI skills if have built fluency across the agentic engineering
toolchain — coding harnesses like Claude Code or Cursor, MCP servers, custom
skills, or agent frameworks. And you can describe projects where you shipped
real work with these tools. You know how to drive an agent, verify its output,
and ramp on an unfamiliar codebase with an agent helping you.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
• Build scalable UI features optimized for millions of users
• Contribute to technical investigations and solutions for middleware and UI
challenges
• Explore integrating AI/ML capabilities and leverage generative AI tools to
accelerate development
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on global platform features
• Develop engineering tools and learn from experienced developers
• Stay current with AI trends and emerging technologies
WE'RE EXCITED IF YOU HAVE
* 3+ years software engineering experience with UI development exposure
• C++ in an embedded environment
• Proficiency in BrightScript (or JavaScript-like) skills plus some experience
with Python
• Strong problem-solving and technical communication abilities
• Interest in AI applications and a willingness to learn about generative AI
tools
• Proactive mindset with passion for continuous learning and fast iteration

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT ROKU'S CULTURE?
Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment
where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try
to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to
work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We
believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a
larger number of less talented teams. We're independent thinkers with big ideas
who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through
collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's
changing how the world watches TV.
We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily
as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the
solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the
customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation,
one that has served us well since 20
02.
