Role: Assistant Professor in Economics (T&EE • Teaching & Educational Enhancement) Directorate: School of Social Sciences Contract Type: Full Time (35 hours per week), Fixed term for 12 months Grade: Grade 7 - £37,694 - £47,389 per annum Organisation: Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance (AEF), Edinburgh Business School Purpose of the Role As a member of the Economics team within the Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance, you will contribute to the delivery and ongoing development of undergraduate and postgraduate Economics education across the University's global campuses. You will support an excellent student experience through high-quality teaching, curriculum design, assessment, and educational innovation, while contributing to the continued success and growth of Economics programmes within Edinburgh Business School. Detailed Description We seek an enthusiastic educator with experience of teaching Economics in higher education. The successful candidate will design and deliver engaging learning experiences across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules, applying disciplinary expertise to foster an inclusive and evidence-informed learning environment. Working with colleagues across the University's international campuses, the postholder will contribute to curriculum enhancement, assessment development, student support, and quality assurance activities. They will be expected to engage with scholarship and professional development that informs teaching practice and supports continuous improvement in learning, teaching and student outcomes. The role offers opportunities to contribute to School, University and sector-wide initiatives that enhance educational practice and student success. Key Duties and Responsibilities Learning and Teaching • Design, deliver and evaluate high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate Economics programmes. • Contribute to curriculum design and development using evidence-informed pedagogic approaches. • Develop innovative teaching materials and learning resources. • Design and deliver assessments aligned to programme learning outcomes. • Provide timely, constructive and developmental feedback to students. • Apply inclusive teaching approaches that support the needs of a diverse international student body. • Utilise student feedback, peer review and relevant evidence to continually enhance teaching and assessment practices. Student Experience and Support • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. • Support student engagement, progression, retention and success. • Work proactively with University support services where students require additional support. Educational Enhancement and Scholarship • Engage in scholarship and educational enhancement activities that inform teaching practice and improve student learning outcomes. • Participate in School and University learning and teaching communities of practice. • Contribute to the evaluation and enhancement of programmes through the use of evidence and student feedback. • Disseminate effective teaching practice within the School and wider academic community where appropriate. • Engage in continuing professional development associated with learning, teaching and educational leadership. Academic Citizenship and Administration • Contribute to programme administration, quality assurance and accreditation activities. • Participate in examination boards, progression boards and relevant School committees. • Support recruitment, outreach and student engagement activities. • Build effective working relationships with colleagues across campuses and external stakeholders. • Contribute positively to the University's culture of equality, diversity and inclusion. Education, Qualifications and Experience Essential 1. Degree in Economics or a closely related discipline 2. A postgraduate qualification (Masters or PhD completed or near completion) in Economics or a related subject. 3. Experience of teaching Economics in higher education. 4. Ability to design, deliver and assess Economics courses effectively. 5. Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and evidence-based teaching practice. 6. Ability to support and advise students from diverse backgrounds. 7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 8. Ability to work collaboratively within programme and School teams. 9. Commitment to professional development and educational enhancement. 10. Proficiency in relevant disciplinary software and digital learning technologies. Desirable 1. Fellowship of Advance HE (FHEA) or equivalent professional recognition. 2. Experience of curriculum design and programme development. 3. Experience supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. 4. Evidence of engagement with scholarship of teaching and learning. 5. Expertise in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International Economics or related areas.
