Job Title: Data Platform Support Engineer
Location: Preston, Bristol, Frimley or Glasgow – Hybrid
Salary: Circa £42,500 per annum dependent on skills and experience

Job Description:
Responsible for leading the upgrade, maintenance, and ongoing support of Data Platform technologies, ensuring alignment with BAE Systems requirements and standards. The role involves monitoring, maintaining, and optimising the Data Platform infrastructure and services delivered by Shared Services Data & Analytics to ensure high levels of performance, reliability, and availability. Additionally, the position acts as the key representative for internal departmental projects and procedures, taking ownership of actions related to the enhancement, exploitation, and continuous improvement of Data Platform technologies while supporting business objectives and driving operational excellence.
Core duties:
Provide day-to-day operational support for data platforms and analytics environments, including monitoring platform health, performance, availability, and capacity
Manages and challenges where appropriate internal and external suppliers to achieve agreed service levels and quality standards. Demonstrating advanced problem-solving capability, working with developers to perform problem management, incident management in relation to Data Platform related issues
Provides technical leadership and support, industry best practice and deliver value on the Data Platform technologies. There is also some focus on developing and promoting new, key functionality within the platform for expanded use across BAE Systems
Supporting the architects & development teams with future Data Platform technology deliverables ensuring seamless product transition into service
To pass on and document critical skills relating to the use of Data Platform technology for other department staff and to enhance the full spectrum of internal developers’ skill range
Working closely with other key enablers (IM&T) and standard setters (Shared Services D&A Architecture team) to adhere to the BAE Systems relevant IT Policy, Operational and Governance framework
Essential Skills:
Understanding of data warehouses, data lakes, lakehouses, and analytical data platforms
Must be data driven and have experience & knowledge in relation to problem solving data related issues
Experience in Linux OS & Windows OS server
SQL skills for troubleshooting, data validation, and performance analysis
Understanding of data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration processes
Experience of one or more data platform technologies such as QLIK Replicate, SOLIX Archiving, Colibri, TIBCO DV, Master Data Management Semarchy, Alation, SSIS, Alteryx
The Data and Analytics Team:
The team are focused on the delivery, support and exploitation of enterprise-wide Data & Analytics Data Platforms across BAE Systems.
As a D&A Data Platform Support Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering value to the customer base, providing technical support and adhering to industry best practise on all Data Platform technologies within scope.
