HSBC Custody Tax sits within HSBC Securities Services (SSv), part of Markets and Securities Services. We support leading institutional clients by helping them access markets, safeguard assets and operate efficiently across complex global markets.
Based in Edinburgh, this role supports the Tax Technical Senior Manager to research, interpret and implement changes in global tax regimes, ensuring MSS GC Europe meets custody tax compliance requirements across multiple client types. You’ll work closely with clients and internal stakeholders to deliver strong service, control and commercial outcomes.
We are currently seeking a professional to join our team in the role of Custody Tax Technical Manager.

In this role you will:
• Deliver a high-quality, risk-controlled client service, ensuring work is completed within agreed timelines and complex queries are answered promptly.
• Monitor and assess tax/regulatory market changes, validate external data (including tax treaties) and implement updates to processes and client communications.
• Maintain accurate client tax static and ensure MSS system static (market and treaty rates) is correct and reconciled; investigate and resolve exceptions within targets.
• Support tax authority audits and regulatory requirements through robust controls, evidence and timely responses; produce MI and service/risk reporting.
• Provide technical support across Custody Tax including Withholding Tax, Double Taxation Agreements, SDRT, and Tax Logistics.
• Support and oversee Tax Transparent Funds (TTFs) activity, including periodic reporting, adherence to standard processes/tools, risk management and continuous improvement.
• Partner with IT to support ongoing development for Custody Tax processing (e.g., Xceptor and Bancs).
To be successful you should have:
• Proven in-depth knowledge of the securities industry and global market infrastructure.
• Detailed understanding and knowledge of a Tax Operations environment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of withholding tax and double taxation agreements worldwide.
• Experience ensuring all client tax-related static is maintained and accurate, including investigating and resolving queries/exceptions within set targets.
• Proven capability to provide support to Tax Transparent Funds (TTFs), including BAU support and associated reporting/control activities.
