The Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Azure Infrastructure Engineer & Architect to join our London-based Production Technology team. This is a senior, hands-on role combining Azure infrastructure engineering, solution architecture and customer-facing technical engagement. You will design, build and evolve secure, scalable and highly available Azure environments while working closely with engineering, operations, architecture and customer teams.
Alongside delivery, you will support pre-sales engagements by understanding customer requirements, shaping Azure solutions and clearly communicating technical designs, trade-offs and implementation approaches to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Essential:
• Azure Experience: 5+ years’ hands-on experience in Azure Infrastructure, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Cloud Architecture or similar, with responsibility for production environments. Strong engineering experience across Azure infrastructure, compute, networking, security, identity and platform services.
• Architecture & Customer Engagement: Proven ability to translate business and customer requirements into robust cloud architectures, clearly communicating technical decisions, risks and trade-offs. Comfortable leading discovery, solution design, workshops, technical presentations and pre-sales discussions.
• Terraform & Infrastructure as Code: Strong production experience with Terraform, including reusable modules, remote state, environment management and established IaC engineering practices. Experience with other IaC or configuration automation tools is advantageous.
• DevOps & Automation: Strong practical experience with GitHub and Azure DevOps, including source control, code reviews, CI/CD and automated infrastructure deployments, plus scripting skills in Python, Bash or PowerShell.
• Networking, Security & Operations: Strong Linux knowledge and advanced understanding of Azure networking, identity and security, with hands-on experience of monitoring, logging, alerting, troubleshooting and supporting highly available production systems.
• Kubernetes & AKS: Hands-on experience deploying, configuring, troubleshooting and operating production containerised workloads using Kubernetes and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
• Azure Governance & Certification: Experience with Azure Landing Zones, including subscriptions, management groups, policy, identity, networking, cost management and Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework alignment. Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert is required; Azure Network Engineer Associate or another relevant Azure certification is advantageous.
Desirable:
• Experience working in a consultancy, managed services or customer delivery environment.
• Experience contributing to RFP/RFI responses, technical proposals, statements of work or cloud migration/modernisation programmes.
• Azure Engineering & Architecture: Design, build and maintain secure, scalable, resilient and highly available Azure environments, translating business and customer requirements into practical architectures that balance availability, performance, security, supportability and cost.
• Infrastructure as Code & Automation: Design and maintain production-grade Terraform, including reusable modules, standards and deployment patterns. Champion IaC best practice across source control, code review, testing, state management, versioning and automation, replacing manual processes wherever possible.
• CI/CD & Platform Engineering: Build and improve secure, reliable deployment pipelines using GitHub and Azure DevOps, integrating Terraform and other automation tooling.
• Networking, Security & Containers: Design Azure networking, identity, access and security controls, and support containerised workloads using Docker, Kubernetes and AKS where appropriate.
• Customer Solutions & Pre-Sales: Work directly with customers through discovery sessions, workshops and technical presentations, shaping solutions and clearly communicating technical designs, decisions and trade-offs. Contribute to proposals, statements of work, technical responses and delivery estimates.
• Operations & Observability: Implement monitoring, logging and alerting, troubleshoot complex production issues and continuously improve the resilience, performance and supportability of Azure environments.
• Technical Leadership & Collaboration: Act as a senior technical voice across Production Technology, partnering with Cloud Technology to develop common engineering standards, provide architectural guidance, challenge designs constructively, mentor colleagues and promote engineering best practice.
