The Role The Garment Technologist is responsible for managing the technical development of products from concept through to production, ensuring all garments meet Belstaff's standards for fit, quality, construction and performance. Working closely with suppliers and cross-functional teams, they provide technical expertise throughout the development process, resolve fit and manufacturing issues, and support the successful delivery of products in line with critical path timelines. Responsibilities Manage the technical development of allocated styles from initial development through to production, ensuring fit, construction, quality and technical requirements meet Belstaff standards. Work across Cut & Sew and Knitwear, with responsibility for additional product categories as required by the business. Coordinate and participate in fit sessions, fit reviews and production sample reviews. Review, measure and assess samples, identifying issues relating to fit, pattern, construction, workmanship and manufacturing, and provide appropriate technical solutions. Communicate clear and timely fit comments, specifications and technical requirements to suppliers and factories. Work closely with suppliers throughout the development process, taking ownership of technical queries and ensuring issues are resolved within the critical path. Review and approve garment construction, measurements, specifications and production samples to ensure consistency with approved standards. Apply strong knowledge of pattern cutting, garment construction and manufacturing when assessing fit and resolving technical issues. Review garment testing and AQL reports, ensuring products meet required performance and quality standards and working with suppliers to resolve any failures. Liaise with suppliers regarding labelling, fibre composition and care label requirements, ensuring information is accurate and compliant. Maintain accurate technical information, trackers and documentation throughout the development and production process. Manage and prioritise samples in line with the critical path, ensuring samples are available for fit sessions and returned to suppliers promptly. Support the Senior Garment Technologist and wider team with technical projects and provide technical input across the product development process. Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required by the Company from time to time. Skills & Experience Proven experience working as a Garment Technologist within a premium, luxury or high-quality fashion brand. Strong technical knowledge and experience across Cut & Sew and Knitwear. Strong understanding of pattern cutting, garment construction, fit and manufacturing processes. Experience independently managing the technical development of styles from initial sample through to production. Experience of fitting garments and identifying the root cause of fit and construction issues. Experience of liaising directly with overseas suppliers and factories, with the confidence to challenge and resolve technical issues. Good knowledge of garment testing, AQL and quality requirements, including the ability to review and interpret test reports. Understanding of labelling, care label and fibre composition requirements. Good computer literacy, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. PLM experience would be advantageous. Excellent attention to detail, with a high level of technical accuracy. Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across multiple departments and with suppliers. Passionate about working for Belstaff and has a genuine interest in product and quality. Highly organised, with the ability to manage and prioritise their own workload across multiple styles and critical paths. Confident and proactive, with the ability to take ownership of their product area and work independently. Highly communicative, personable and approachable. Able to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment. Positive, commercially aware and solutions focused. Flexible and willing to support the wider team as business needs evolve.
