The Role
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and
supporting next-generation autonomous and robotic systems that help shape the
future of defence and security.
Day-to-day, you'll provide systems engineering expertise across complex defence
programmes, supporting trials, experimentation and system integration activities
involving both crewed and uncrewed platforms. Working as part of a growing
Future Systems team, you will support the development, testing and delivery of
innovative technologies that provide operational advantage to MOD customers.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Leading systems engineering activities across complex defence and security
projects
• Supporting the integration, testing and validation of software-enabled
systems and trial rigs
• Providing technical support during operational trials and experimentation
activities
• Working with customers and stakeholders to develop and deliver innovative
systems-of-systems solutions
• Supporting crewed and uncrewed platforms across maritime and wider defence
environments
• Producing high-quality technical documentation, reports and engineering
evidence
Essential experience of the Senior Systems Engineer:
• Strong Systems Engineering experience within complex engineering, defence or
safety-critical environments
• Experience working with integrated systems or systems-of-systems
• Knowledge of system testing, trials, verification or validation activities
• Understanding of software-enabled systems and networking concepts
• Experience engaging with customers, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to assess technical changes and produce clear engineering
documentation
Essential qualifications for the Senior Systems Engineer
• Degree qualified in Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related discipline,
or equivalent experience
• Eligible to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance

This role is 37 hours per week based at our PTP, Portsmouth site with a minimum
average site attendance of three days per week.Travel to other QinetiQ and
customer sites will be expected. The successful candidate may support annual
overseas trials activities, typically lasting between one and three weeks.
Maritime experience is preferred, however candidates from land, air and other
complex engineering environments are encouraged to apply.
PTP
Portsmouth Technology Park (PTP) is one of QinetiQ's key facilities, focusing on
advanced technology development and engineering services. It is dedicated to
research and development, ensuring that complex systems are designed,
integrated, and tested effectively to meet operational requirements. The
facility utilises sophisticated modelling and simulation techniques to analyse
and predict performance.
